17 DECEMBER 2015 - FPS Towers is committed to protecting the environment

During the installation of a mountaintop antenna with extension near Landersheim in north-eastern France, our teams discovered a stork’s nest in the pylon. Mindful of our environmental responsibility and in the interest of preserving the ecosystem, FPS Towers immediately began making plans for the actions necessary to protect and ensure the long-term viability of the stork’s nest.

Acting on the advice of Aprecial, an organisation for the protection and reintroduction of storks in Alsace and Lorraine, FPS Towers removed the nest from the pylon following the storks’ departure (the birds migrate in mid-September), then installed not far from the pylon an 8-metre wooden pole with a steel nest (thus before the return of the storks in mid-February), after which a deterrent mechanism was installed on the FPS pylon so that, upon their return, the storks would be sure to favour the wooden pole.

The original nest was so intermingled with the pylon that the team needed to saw through to remove it. Next, the wooden pole was installed nearby and a steel nest was positioned at the top the pole. This nest was also protected with a covering. The storks may now return with ease and in complete safety.

For FPS Towers, there is no disconnect between its core business – the operation, leasing and maintenance of pylons – and the protection of the environment. We are thrilled that the storks will be able to continue their lives in their natural habitat, on returning from their migration in February of next year.
